Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy is the professional adaptation and application of yoga's principles and practices to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic context. Unlike a general yoga class, it involves a thorough assessment by a certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) and the creation of a personalized practice plan tailored to the individual's specific physical, mental, or emotional health goals and limitations. Yoga Therapists utilize a range of tools including physical postures (asana) modified for therapeutic benefit, breathing techniques (pranayama) to influence the nervous system and energy levels, guided meditation and relaxation for mental clarity and stress reduction, and relevant concepts from yoga philosophy to support self-awareness and coping. This mind-body approach is used as a complementary therapy for managing chronic conditions like pain, anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, stress, and supporting overall wellness. The focus is on empowering clients with self-care tools, enhancing body awareness, improving function, and fostering holistic integration. No prior yoga experience or flexibility is required.
