Mental Health Therapist
Ages: Adolescents, Adults
Licensed: Maryland, Colorado, & New York
Meaghan Barry is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) dedicated to providing compassionate therapy to clients in Maryland and New York. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from SUNY Geneseo and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. John Fisher University. Throughout her career, Meaghan has developed a strong passion for helping individuals tackle a wide range of mental health concerns. In her previous role as a primary therapist at an eating disorder partial hospitalization program, she expertly led group sessions focusing on body image, motivational interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), while also working closely with individual adult and adolescent clients. Her holistic approach integrates family and school collaboration, ensuring that each client receives comprehensive support tailored to their unique needs. Further extending her expertise, Meaghan has gained valuable experience in private practice, assisting adolescents struggling with anxiety and depression, as well as participating in a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) team at an outpatient community mental health center. This breadth of experience includes successfully guiding clients facing borderline personality disorder, complex trauma, self-harm, suicidality, and substance misuse towards developing critical skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Meaghan's commitment to continuous learning and her previous experience equips her to create a nurturing environment that promotes positive change, empowering her clients to cultivate healthier relationships with their bodies, food, and themselves.
Therapeutic Approach
Meaghan's approach is rooted in creating a trauma-informed space where clients can feel safe, supported, and empowered to engage in their healing journey. She values collaboration and actively involves clients in setting achievable and measurable goals, ensuring that therapy is not only responsive to immediate concerns but also promotes long-term growth. Meaghan utilizes a variety of evidence-based techniques drawn from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, and trauma-informed approaches. This eclectic methodology allows her to tailor interventions to fit the individual needs of each client, adapting her strategies to meet them at their unique point in the healing process.

In her work, Meaghan has a special passion for supporting individuals facing challenges related to eating disorders, borderline personality disorder, grief, and identity concerns, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community. Her counseling style is characterized by empathy, authenticity, and a touch of humor, making it possible for clients to feel validated and understood. At the outset of the therapeutic process, she conducts comprehensive assessments to grasp the client’s history and motivations for seeking help. Through a non-judgmental and accepting atmosphere, Meaghan encourages clients to express themselves freely, facilitating open communication and trust. By prioritizing a holistic approach, she empowers her clients to cultivate self-acceptance and resilience, ensuring their therapy journey is a meaningful and transformative experience.
